Obsidian Flow

Nature's Glass

Just south of Bend, this obsidian flow is found inside the Newberry Crater. Obsidian is a natural glass comprising mostly silica with other minerals contributing characteristic dark colors.

While the trail is easy, it is no place for dogs, small children or the careless. Obsidian splits into countless shards with edges sharper than any razor and they do not deteriorate with time. You may even find the soles of your boots picking up cuts.
